Kurt Maflin was dissatisfied at missing out on the opportunity of a 147 break

Maflin was on for a maximum 147 break when the white ball hit the yellow to put him out of position for the penultimate red.

The reward for a 147 at this year’s event is ₤40,000 and he was clearly annoyed at losing out on the opportunity for a big payday.

Referee Tatiana Woollaston needed to caution Maflin about his conduct following the gesture.

She stated: “I need to warn you– the next one, you lose the frame.”

Maflin did go on to beat Gilbert 10 -8 to move to the 2nd round of the tournament at the Crucible Theatre.

After the win, he stated: “I indicated nothing by it. It was purely aggressiveness being taken out on the cue ball.

” I felt like I ‘d worked truly tough to get into that position … and when the white hit the yellow, it was simply among those responses.

” She [Woollaston] was whispering and I believed she was telling me to tuck my shirt in, however she informed me she needed to caution me for the gesture. I wasn’t quite with it at that phase.”

Maflin will go on to deal with John Higgins in the second round of the World Champion
