If you need a suggestion of San Francisco’s multifaceted landscape, go to Sea Cliff.

As the name indicates, it’s a neighborhood developed on, and in some parts into, a cliff neglecting the extensive Pacific Ocean. It’s on the opposite side of the town hall, away from the stress– you’ll get a large whiff of salt and brush of sea breeze by simply wandering its streets.

Notable locals that have at one point owned property here consist of actors Robin Williams, Sharon Stone with then-husband Phil Bronstein– who was the managing editor for the San Francisco Examiner– Cheech Marin, and Eugene Levy; artists Paul Kantner of Jefferson Aircraft and Kirk Hammett of Metallica, prominent professional photographer Ansel Adams, and Bay Area tech bigwigs like Twitter and Square creator and CEO and billionaire Jack Dorsey, who apparently paid a cumulative $30 million for 2 homes next door to each other, both nestled into a cliffside overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

It’s a sought after community, Sotheby’s real-estate representative Anne Herrera informed Company Expert in a 2019 interview.

” It has actually become a location for those that have the ways to do so to buy a house and still remain in the city, but still be extremely linked to nature and all the charm of the views of the bridge and the beach,” Herrera said.

We invested a day meandering through the community’s streets in early 2020, down El Camino Del Mar, Sea Cliff Opportunity, and into the general public cove of China Beach where Jack Dorsey’s house shows up.

It’s a breathtaking part of San Francisco– here’s what it resembles within.

Sea Cliff was founded in 1913 as one of San Francisco’s 8 master-planned house parks, or “garden suburbs.”

Fast forward to today, and it’s still as tranquil as it was when it was constructed.

But what was originally planned to be simply a reprieve from city life has actually transformed into one of 21 st century San Francisco’s most elite communities thanks in part to the distance to the ocean.

A Few Of the most stunning vantage points of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Pacific Ocean remain in Sea Cliff.

And some of the highest-priced and most desired homes in the city are found here.

Sea Cliff itself technically covers a bigger location of the city than simply the main suburb. Land’s End, Sutro Baths, the Legion of Honor museum, and other tourist attractions are lumped into the community.

But many of the Sea Cliff houses are concentrated in the east part of the community.

There was, however, no lack of landscapers and professionals, working hard to manicure the beautiful yards and carrying out restorations– some inside, some out– on the elegant homes.

The layout of the residential streets is certainly similar to rural style– the streets and sidewalks were narrower than what you would discover in a city setting, and trees were symmetrically lined along the roadways.
