Animations like this haven’t existed worldwide for a very long time. Here they are.
At New York City Comic-Con 2020 today, Hulu premiered the first complete clip from its upcoming reboot of Animaniacs, the traditional ’90 s animation that blended traditional cartoon slapstick with a diet plan of pop culture so deep and so vast that it would trigger kids throughout America to understand, years later, that they sort of already understood who Orson Welles was. With the initial cast members reprising their roles and fan favorites like Pinky and the Brain returning together with the Warner Brother or sisters, it’s appearing like a fantastic recover.
The very first clip certainly seems like it, in the kind of an adorable little Jurassic Park parody including Steven Spielberg, Yakko, Wakko, and Dot, and one very stired Hulu executive. It’s exactly the sort of meta rubbish gag you ‘d expect from the program at its height, and, thankfully for the program’s writers, Jurassic Park is in some way still a timely reference.
The remainder of the panel was intriguing, too, featuring the cast and team discussing the work of re-animating and lightly re-designing the Warner Siblings, which included a lot of mocked up designs rejected by Steven Spielberg in favor of looks closer to the originals. All informed, it’s an interesting time to be an Animaniacs fan. You can see the full panel below, and Animaniacs premieres on Hulu on November 20 th.
