Restaurant owner Richard Cooper states the majority of individuals were ‘convinced’ the harbour town would be Tier 1

The small town lies in the far west of Dorset – a county which has a rate of around 65 cases per 100,000 and decreasing.

However despite its tidy record, this traveler hotspot is preparing to emerge from lockdown not in Tier 1, as numerous locals had actually expected – but in the harder Tier 2.

” Over the months, everyone have actually been second thinking what was going to occur and I think everybody without exception were convinced we ‘d be Tier 1,” stated Richard Cooper, owner of the Rise restaurant.

Christmas bookings of mixed households will now have to be cancelled.

” We feel really disappointed that this appears to be a really broad brush technique which does not really fit our particular area. We are going to struggle,” he included.

Richard’s frustration was echoed around the harbourside.

One pub proprietor was too upset to talk to us, mad that they won’t get the bumper Christmas drinking trade they ‘d expected.

Another woman, who didn’t wish to be called, wasn’t delighted.

This lady, who did not wish to be named, states she is ‘upset’ and is not sure what else can be done to restrict COVID-19 in West Bay

She said: “Angry. I’m upset. Will it alter before Christmas? Have we got to strive for two weeks? I don’t know. How can we attempt harder? We don’t go anywhere apart from here, strolling round the harbour.”

We stroll past the boats and find angler John Worswick unloading his catch of sole.

He’s lived in the area for 20 years.

” I think we’ve been lumped in with maybe Bournemouth and Poole, and I suppose that’s the just huge area here with any sort of cases.

” However to be fair without it you have actually got people who’ll take a trip, so if it was open here perhaps you ‘d get people from somewhere else – I do not know – I wouldn’t like to have to make the decision!”

Tier 2 areas like West Bay will be hoping that at the very first review on 16 December the area will move down.
