A schoolboy was left in a coma after he was allegedly set upon by a gang of youths who relentlessly kicked and beat him as he lay helplessly on the ground.

CCTV footage taken from the scene showed up to 10 unidentified people repeatedly attack the 15-year-old boy, with some appearing to be holding implements.

The boy, who has been named as Ukrainian Yuriy Khruchenyk, reportedly remains in a coma.

Many have reacted with outrage following the incident, which took place near to Beaugrenelle shopping centre in the French capital, close to the Eiffel Tower, on the evening of January 15.

On Twitter the Ukrainian ambassador to France said that he prayed for the boy’s recovery.

According to Mail Online, Investigators said the incident has the indications of an organised gang attack, with a group of teenagers from the southern suburb of Vanves thought to be responsible.

An investigating source reportedly said: “They saw the gang running towards them, but Yuriy struggled to get away.

“As he tried to run, he fell over and was caught by the gang, who started kicking and punching him, and hitting him with iron bars and baseball bats.

“He was rushed to hospital, where he was found to have fractures to his skull, and a decision was taken to place him in an induced coma.”
