EMERGENCY crews rescued a woman who almost drowned in an Oxfordshire river.

Fire crews from Oxford’s Rewley Road and Slade Park stations were called into action just before 3am yesterday to help rescue the woman from the river Isis – a stretch of the River Thames under the southern bypass.

She was in the river up until an ambulance crew from South Central Ambulance Service were first to arrive on scene.

They were able to secure her by throwing a life ring, followed by firefighters using a ladder into the water to rescue her to the bankside.

Oxford Mail:

Crews were on scene within minutes and thanks the work of colleagues who were able to get her to safety for further treatment.

This week is national water safety week and crews are highlighting the risks of entering water where it is unsafe and the risk of drowning – which they say was ‘very narrowly avoided’ yesterday morning.
