During a speech at a virtual climate summit of 40 global leaders, President Biden promised that this would be a “decisive decade” for overcoming climate change. He made the pledge to cut carbon emissions by 50-52 percent by 2030, though this promise is not what caught the attention of some viewers.

President Biden used the speech to confirm plans for the COP26 meeting, which is expected to take place in Glasgow this November.

He said: “This summit is our first step on the road we’ll travel together, God-willing all of us, to and through Glasgow this November in the UN climate conference.”

Instead of pronouncing Glasgow as “glaz-go” like most in the UK would, President Biden said the name of Scotland’s biggest city like “glass-cow”.

The leader of the free world is not the first person to struggle with Scottish city names, with many Americans pronouncing “Edinburgh” in the same way as “Pittsburgh”.

President Biden’s mistake has received a massive reaction on Twitter, with many Scottish residents stunned at the pronunciation.

One person said: “Can someone please teach Biden how to say ‘Glasgow’ before he goes there? For his own safety.”

Alongside a picture of a glass cow, another person tweeted: “This is not how you pronounce Glasgow, Joe Biden.”

A third asked: “Glass gow? Where’s Joe Biden heading? #Glasgow”

Another tweeter added: “I thank Pres. Biden for the hard work he is doing so that my kids have a planet to enjoy but I strongly urge him to consider this one thing before attending COP26 later this year…..the W in Glasgow is silent, could someone in his team let him know before he comes over?”
